The primary role of the Greeter is to help direct the society’s customers to the proper location and answer basic inquiries while making a favorable first impression.  Greeters must enjoy interaction with the public and be willing to learn about society programs and services.

  • Shift: Greeters are most needed on Fridays (12:00 p.m. - 4.30 p.m.), Saturdays (10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) and Sundays (10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.). Shifts average 3 hours.

Development

Our development department is responsible for processing all donations and planning our special event fundraisers for the society.  Volunteers are needed for working at special events, and periodically for help with office work.  Interactions with our shelter pets are limited – but remember that raising money for the animals is extremely important.  For special events, committee involvement and day of event opportunities are available.

  • Shift times and commitment vary depending on event.

Foster Care

Volunteers can provide temporary care for cats and/or dogs with litters, and animals with treatable illnesses.  You must be able to provide transportation and isolation.  Medicines, food and special dietary items will be provided.  A training manual will be provided to you, and an assessment interview with our Foster Care Coordinator is required.

Marketing / Public Relations

Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs, such as digital photography, animal write-ups and data entry.  Volunteers take pictures of adoptable animals to be posted on the society website, to create adoption flyers, and kennel cards.  You must own your own digital camera to participate in the photography program.  We also need photographers to take pictures at our special events.  In addition, artistic volunteers are needed to create special promotional signs to increase the visibility of specific animals and create positive promotion for the shelter and its special events.

Facilities Assistant

Volunteers are needed to assist our facilities manager and volunteer gardening crew in the care and upkeep of our shelter grounds and dog park.  General handyman skills are a plus.  Tasks include cleaning, maintenance and gardening duties.

  • Shift times and commitment vary.

Administrative Assistant

Volunteer administrative assistants are needed in several shelter departments.   General office duties include, but are not limited to, data entry, filing and correspondence.  Contact with animals is dependant upon which department the volunteer is assisting.

  • Commitment: Six month commitment, four to eight hours per week.

Kennel Attendant

Volunteers are needed to assist animal care attendants with daily duties including, but not limited to, cleaning kennels, feeding animals, washing dog beds and blankets and cleaning dog bowls.  Considerable contact with animals, so all animal handling classes and training is required.
