Upcoming
Volunteer Opportunities - We Need You!
Humane Education
Humane Education needs Humane Education Docents
(responsible for giving humane education presentations
to community groups and schools; may handle
a variety of humane education animals) Volunteers
must be over the age of 18; be comfortable
with public speaking; be patient and courteous
(especially with children’s groups); must have
a willingness to bring humane education to
the community; be able to transport themselves
to speaking destinations; be able to work with
minimal supervision; be reliable and dependable;
must be available weekdays during school hours
and must commit to a minimum of 6 months in
the program.
Licensing
Licensing is expanding to try and increase
awareness and license sales. A volunteer is
needed to work at the Country Feed Store in
Vista on Sundays
from 1pm – 3pm.
The duties would include approaching all individuals at the vaccine clinic that
receives a Rabies shot for their dog. The volunteer would need to explain the
importance of licensing and pricing for a license. Additionally, you would need
to complete the license application form and issue the license. Finally, collect
payment in the form of cash or check; then turn the completed forms and payments
into a NCHS employee at the end of the vaccine clinic on Sunday. What we need
is the type of person that is honest, reliable and understanding of the importance
for licensing your dog.
Please email the Volunteer Coordinator
if you are interested in any of the above positions.
Offsite Kitty-Care Volunteers
Due to the current lack of staff and volunteers,
we have temporarily suspended housing
cats for adoption at the two Petco Stores (one
on Mission Avenue & one on
Vista Way.) Although we do have some very dedicated
volunteers currently working at Petsmart and
appreciate them wholeheartedly, we need to
see that the cats’ basic needs are met daily
and, therefore, need more volunteers.
We will continue to have cats available for
adoption at the Petsmart located on Marron
Road as long as we can adequately care for
them.
Masonry Contractor
NCHS is in need of a masonry contractor. Commemorative
bricks were purchased by NCHS donors to be
placed in the dog park walking path. The contractor
would be responsible for removing top soil
in the path to make the bricks even with the
dirt, compacting sand to place the bricks in
and laying the inner-locking bricks. In addition
to the brick work, apparently a concrete curb
on each side of the path is needed to help
secure the bricks to reduce movement. NCHS
would like to have this contractor set the
posts to secure the trash receptacles, the
posts for the information board and secure
the posts to hold two different commemorative
bronze plaques; all which need to be set in
cement. The only additional aspect would be
to have the contractor available to return
to the dog park each time we have 25 or more
new bricks to be laid into the path.
If any of you have a family member, friend,
or own a construction company; we would greatly
appreciate the opportunity to talk with you.
