As soon as you know your animal is missing,
please come to the North County Humane Society & SPCA
to search our facility. Check back with our shelter
at least twice in the first five days that your pet is lost.
If you do not see your pet at the shelter, please ask
to see the Lost & Found
Log. This will contain reports given by people in the community that may have
found your animal and are temporarily keeping it.
Cats
Please check in with
our front office staff to notify them of your search.
An animal care attendant
will escort you through the cat isolation ward of the
shelter.
Check other Local Shelters
If you live in an area that borders a city other
than Oceanside or Vista, please check with other
local animal shelters. Most animals will be able
to travel great distances in a short period. If the animal is found by
a Good Samaritan, they often will take it to the
shelter that's nearest to
them, which may not be the shelter in your area.
Utilize the internet for rescue groups that may offer
assistance in searching for your animal's particular
breed.
Spread the Word
Notify everyone in your neighborhood, friends, family
and anyone else that had contact and knowledge of
the animal.
Put up flyers of the animal in your community.
Make sure you include a picture of the animal, where it was last seen,
a detailed physical description, and a phone number to call.
If you choose to offer a reward for your pet, do
not specify an amount, but indicate that an award indeed
is offered and to call for any information.
