(Oceanside, CA – Feb. 3, 2005) "Paris", a two-month-old Chihuahua
born with two severely deformed front legs, is scheduled for surgery
on Tuesday, February 8th. After several local veterinarians examined
Paris, it was determined that immediate surgery would give Paris
her best shot
at life as a normal dog. Without surgery, Paris would live a life
in severe pain.
Paris was abandoned by her owners shortly after she was born
and staff members here at the NCHS decided something needed to be
done to give her a fighting chance.
On January 20th, the North County Humane Society & SPCA created the "Paris
Fund," and the outpouring of support from across the country was nothing short
of amazing. During the two week period, more than $15,000 poured in from New
York, Florida, Texas, Delaware, Rhode Island and cities throughout California.
Paris will arrive at VCA Emergency Animal Hospital in San Diego
at 9:30am and the procedure will take place after 1pm. The hospital
is located at 2317 Hotel
Circle South in Mission Valley. To schedule an interview, please contact
Dr. Mullen directly at (619) 299-2400. NCHS Operations Manager Teresa
Setter, who
has been fostering Paris, will also be available for interviews. Teresa can
be reached via cell phone at (760) 420-9742.
Every year thousands of dogs come into this world with special
needs. These dogs might require an expensive surgery to correct a problem
that has prevented
them
from leading a normal life; many may get no help at all. Most of these
dogs are young, and have several years of pain ahead of them if they
do not get
help.
Paris is a perfect example of what we see here at the shelter every day.
Once Paris’ surgical needs are met, all additional money raised will go
to help
other homeless animals in our care.
