Adopters Share Their Stories

We adopted Sammy (originally Tony) on March 24, 2007. In seven short weeks, he has truly become one of the family. His age was estimated at just over a year old, however as he has bonded with our family, he has become a playful puppy once again.

Sammy enjoys waking up our seven year old son with gentle kisses every morning. He seems to understand the command of "time to wake up" and he'll go to our son's room and lick his ear until he wakes up. Our son just adores his new dog, and clearly Sammy loves him.

Sammy's personality continues to emerge more each day. My husband and I are so thankful we adopted him from the Humane Society. We still can't imagine any reason of how or why he was there, but today we don't care, and it really doesn't matter - he is part of our family, and we feel very lucky to have found such a great addition.

Bree Happily Settled in her Forever Home

I went into the Humane Society to look for a cat, and when I opened the door, straight ahead was a beautiful Siamese mix. She had blue eyes and burnt orange tipped hair. I went out to get my boyfriend so he could look at her, and when I came back in she had put herself under the towel that was in her cage.

Her name was BriAnn, now it's just Bree. She was an owner turn in and I don't understand why anyone would want to turn her in! She is the sweetest cat and is queen of the house, even my little Rat Terrier doesn't mess with her! They will play in the morning and when she has had enough she lets him know. She is just the sweetest thing ever!

Roxy Rocks On with her new Family

We first saw "Roxy" on April 1st a week after we had our 16 1/2 year old Lhasa Apso put to sleep. We had agreed to get our son a dog of his own when he turned 10. We looked at all the animals, of course "just looking." The next thing I know he is sitting on the floor next to the cage of a female Rott mix and they are having a love affair through the bars. I told my son to call his Dad on my cell (a better chance of getting the dog home than if I called!!)

To make a long story short, we have had Roxy for 6 months now and we love her more than we could ever have expected. My husband always thought of himself as a cat person and has said he never thought he could love a dog so much. Roxy loves to run so they are running partners.

Roxy has gotten used to our 15 year old Lhasa and vice versa. Roxy has also been the best dog a 10 year old little boy could have. She is very smart and has learned a lot since we got her, and we are starting training classes this Saturday.

We are so grateful for the love she's brought into our lives and for your commitment to finding homes for these animals. I was also impressed with the care that your staff showed when I brought my dog Pepper in to be put to sleep. Thank you for our Roxy!

Rocky & Stoney delight seniors and get spoiled in return

I went to visit the kittens I've left in the care of my senior parents yesterday and they are all madly in love. The kitties can't be happier to live with two weirdoes like my folks - my Dad has started making them unbelievable toys and my mom gets up with them at 4:30am "Cause they're hungry."

Rocky and Stoney sleep with them in bed (my mother now sleeps in goggles to protect her recently operated-on eyes) which amuses everybody. They used to have a candle and display in the middle of a bowl in the coffee table, now all that has been cleared out and it the 'boy's place.'

These kitties are so healthy, we cannot thank you enough for their care. I know it's unusual to give 84 year olds kittens, but it has worked out for everybody, brought a great deal of new joy into my folks' lives, and although I have had a couple of long talks about how to live with kittens, they are all doing well. Of course, if my parents weren't in fabulous shape I don't think I would have considered it, but it is working out well. Except I get several calls a day to bring me up to date on the latest antics of Rocky and Stoney...

Rescued Kitty becomes spoiled royalty in her new home

About two years ago I heard through a chain of friends that a woman had a 10 year old Maine coon whom she’d raised since she was a kitten and had to get rid of. She said she’d looked for someone to adopt the cat, but had no takers. She had decided to euthanize her. I was so heartbroken when I heard, that I agreed to take the cat before ever meeting her.

At first, the cat wouldn’t come out from under my bed and cried and growled when I tried to pet her. I would try to give her treats, but she wanted no part of me. After what seemed like an eternity, in actual time about three weeks, she bravely ventured out from under the bed and explored the house at 4am. I followed her since we have other cats and it was the first time she’d left my bedroom. It was the first time I really got to look at her, since she was in her carrier when she'd arrived and had immediately fled under the bed. I couldn’t believe how beautiful she was!

I changed her name, it was Tigger, and she is far too beautiful for such a plain name. I named her Savannah. Here we are two years later…Savannah is the most beautiful cat I have ever seen. She is so sweet and gentle, loving and affectionate. When she’s not in my lap or being carried in my arms, she sleeps in her own recliner in my living room and follows me all over the house. She loves treats and being brushed. I cannot believe anyone could ever think of giving her up. She is such a blessing! I absolutely adore her and I spoil her in every way. I am so lucky to have found her; I can’t imagine a better, more loving cat. I was meant to be her mommy.

Orange Bud blossoms into a Shamrock

I went to adopt a dog, but a 3 year old orange cat named "Bud" caught my eye. I sat with him in the cat section for quite sometime and absolutely fell in love. Once at his new home, he seemed to be quite comfortable. I changed his name to Shamrock, in honor of my summer in Ireland.

He is already trained and uses his litter box with no problems. He scratches on his post and plays with his toys. He sleeps right next to me every night and meows in the morning when it's time to wake up and have breakfast.

He had to come into my work office for two days due to repairs being made on my home, but he loved being at work with me. He was given his own private office for the day, played with everyone and they all just loved him. He enjoys watching movies with my boyfriend and I too! It's been less than a month and I just have no clue what I did without my Shamrock. I'm so lucky that we found each other! Thanks!
