Specialty Care Coordinator
Full time, non-exempt, full benefit
DEFINITION:
Identify animals that need more assistance than the normal level of care provided during their stay at NCHS and finding alternative temporary and/or permanent placement for such animals. Participates in development and implementation of programs addressing the special needs of both animals and people.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Foster Care Program:
- Manages Foster Care program, identifying animals in need of foster care and appropriate volunteers for care.
- Prepares animals for pick up and transport.
- Tracks animals in foster care, ensuring progress, scheduling appointments for veterinary care, vaccinations, altering and return.
- Work closely with veterinarian to ensure best level of treatment is provided and all treatment plans are recorded in Shelter Buddy and followed.
- Ensure foster supplies are clean, well stocked and readily available.
- Assist Volunteer Coordinator to provide appropriate training to potential and existing volunteers.
- On call availability for foster parents with emergencies.
Adoption Partner Transfer Program:
- Develop, implement and manage an animal transfer program.
- Work closely with shelter staff to indentify and prepare qualified animals for transfer.
- Schedule and assist with adoption partner appointments, identifying animals and ensuring animals approval for transfer.
- Ensure animals are altered and vaccinated, when appropriate, upon transfer.
- Ensure all records are accurate.
Adoption Partner Offsite Program:
- Select animals to be placed for adoption through offsite Adoption Partners.
- Schedule selected animals for spay/neuter, ensure vaccinations are up to date and all cats are feline leukemia tested.
- Coordinate all aspects of transporting animals to offsite Adoption Partners, ensuring unhealthy animals are removed from offsite Adoption Partners promptly.
- Work closely with offsite Adoption Partner staff and volunteers to ensure proper care, cleaning and health of animals placed for adoption offsite.
- Clean, supply and feed animals at offsite Adoption Partners when needed.
- Ensure all records are updated accurately with animal’s location.
Project KEPPT:
- Participate in the development and implementation of Project KEPPT program, often acting as the point person.
- Schedule appointments with, and counsel, individuals desiring to relinquish their pet for adoption and/or euthanasia. Provide resource information and assistance with final decision. Ensure proper documentation appropriate to final outcome. Schedule appropriate future appointments.
- Assist with community outreach events (shot clinic) to make public aware of Project KEPPT assistance programs as they become available.
Other Duties:
- Select and coordinate animals for Community Outreach adoption events.
- Ensure selected animals are altered, vaccinated and groomed prior to event.
- Act as shelter point of contact on day of Community Outreach adoption event.
- Follows established safety and humane protocols in handling of animals.
- Maintain and communicate society values to the public, volunteers and co-workers.
- Exercise tact and independent judgment in dealing with the public; present a positive public image; develop and maintain working relationships with co-workers.
- Ensure that work station is kept clean and maintained daily; represent NCHS in a positive manner by professional personal appearance, adhering to dress code, as well as appearance of work area.
- Attend mandatory monthly all staff training.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
High school graduate or equivalent. Knowledge of domesticated animals. Ability to recognize ill, behaviorally challenged, or underage animals. Must possess a diplomatic yet strong personality and superior interpersonal skills in order to interact with diverse temperaments. Must have valid CA driver’s license, with ability to be insured by Society insurance. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and e-mail communications. Positive attitude. Ability to handle a variety of animals humanely. Able to work a flexible schedule.
GENERAL ABILITY TO:
Multi-task; motivate volunteers; be detail oriented; work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment. Able to lift 50+ pounds. Sit, stand and bend.

License Coordinator

Definition
Create and implement systems and programs to sell and increase the sale of dog licenses in the cities of Vista and Oceanside. Responsible for marketing, sales and fulfillment. Act as liaison with outside business and technology consultants regarding licensing and technology needs.
Examples of Duties
- Manage all aspects of NCHS license program including marketing, sales and fulfillment. Oversee business operations as it relates to license and service dog license fulfillment and issuance of tags. Supervise and manage license department employees. Develop and maintain reports regarding license sales in each city. Keep licensing records.
- Seek new opportunities, create processes and implement them, for the sale of licenses. Liaison with local businesses to identify and implement partnership opportunities regarding the sale of licenses and other NCHS programs. Build and maintain community relationships. Maintain the new license and renewal license calendar and processes.
- Research, develop, and implement automated systems to increase efficiency for license sale and fulfillment. Create processes to implement license sales at NCHS offsite programs.
- Work with the development department to create educational, marketing, and renewal materials regarding licensing for dissemination to the public and to create web based opportunities for license sales.
- Keep abreast of all legalities regarding licenses in the State of California and suggest ideas regarding ordinances for NCHS.
- Responsible to troubleshoot internal computer and telephone issues for NCHS with the help of outside consultant. Seek opportunities to upgrade or expand the existing technology. Responsible for overseeing and troubleshooting technical issues involving NCHS software including Shelter Buddy and Donor Perfect.
- Duties and related work as directed.
Employment Standards
Have knowledge of proper English usage, grammar and spelling. Must have basic sales and marketing, business development experience and knowledge. Must have a valid California Class C driver’s license. Must have a high degree of computer literacy and understanding of technology issues including databases, hardware, and software. Must be able to use computer programs that track sales and create reports.

Customer Care Associate

Definition:
To assist with adoptions of dogs and cats at North County Humane Society. Use good Customer Service skills, handle the cash register and all transactions, closing out receipts at the end of each day. .
Examples of Duties:
Follow the Humane Society’s policies and procedures and city, county and state requirements. Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff members and other departments. Promote a positive image of the Society through positive public relations. Counsel potential adopters regarding the adoption of animals. Prepare and maintain pet adoption information and paperwork and input in computer as needed. Count money, stamp checks and reconcile adoption paperwork at the end of each day. Maintain the front office cleanliness and replenish Humane Society brochures and paperwork.

Animal Care Associate
Supervisor: Shelter Supervisor
Definition
Performs animal shelter kennel maintenance and operations work including animal receipt, custody, care, cleaning, euthanasia and disposal work; and performs related work.
Examples of Duties
Receives all incoming animals including scanning for microchips, worming, vaccinations, tagging and kennel placement; handles and moves animals from one shelter area to another, cleans and disinfects animal enclosures; hoses down and cleans cages, equipment, enclosures, walkways and work areas; feeds and cares for a wide variety of animals that typically include dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, and may include reptiles and livestock, etc.; humanely destroys and disposes of animals when necessary utilizing syringe injection method; updates computer files when receiving animals; releases impounded animals to owners; answers inquiries from public; assists public with adoptions, identifies, segregates and isolates dangerous and / or ill animals; keeps simple records.
General Knowledge of:
Shelter cleaning and sanitation methods and techniques.
Animal care, feeding and handling methods and techniques.

Education / Experience:
Education, training and or experience which clearly demonstrate possession of the knowledge and skills stated above. Examples of such education and experience is:
Six (6) months of experience working with domestic animals in a veterinary hospital, humane society, or other animal facility;
Any course work (i.e. R.O.P.) in animal care is desirable.
Working Condition:
May euthanize animals on a daily basis. May work irregular shifts, weekends and holidays. Exposure to dog and cat hair daily.
Physical Requirement:
Performs prolonged, strenuous, physical activity including standing and walking over long periods of time. Handles a wide variety of animals. Frequently lifts, carries and restrains objects / animals weighing up to 75 pounds. Works extensively with water and chemicals for disinfecting kennels.
License:
A valid California Class C driver’s license which must be maintained throughout employment, is required at time of appointment.

Shelter Veterinarian
Full-Time; Exempt
The North County Humane Society is currently searching
for a licensed Veterinarian to develop and implement
a comprehensive program of veterinary care for the 7,000
animals that come through our doors annually.
The staff Veterinarian provides routine and emergency
medical and surgical care for a wide variety of animals
in the shelter; performs physical examinations, vaccinations,
emergency triage and stabilization of ill and injured
animals; performs adult and pediatric spaying and neutering
on animals; performs other surgeries as needed; performs
adoption examinations to identify health conditions;
and assists with euthanasia training and certification
for staff. This position also supervises, schedules,
oversees and coordinates the daily activities of staff
Veterinary Assistants.
It is the responsibility of the Veterinarian to develop,
review and uphold animal medical protocols to ensure
quality and consistent care for the animals at the shelter. The
Veterinarian will also be closely involved in establishing
and maintaining a positive working relationship with
private veterinary hospitals and emergency facilities
in the area.
Qualified applicants must possess a doctoral degree
in veterinary medicine from an accredited college or
university, a valid license to practice veterinary medicine
in the State of California and have a minimum of two
(2) years of experience in the field. Prior experience
with program responsibility, staff supervision and shelter
medicine are a plus.
